CommOCEAN conference 2022

30 November 2022 to 1 December 2022

We welcome fascinating abstracts to make the CommOCEAN conference in 2022 a successful edition once again! We are looking for workshop organizers, presenters and exhibitors (see detailed information below).

Submit an abstract  until June 15th 2022 (direct access)

To help you as you finalise your abstract, we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the objectives of the conference, and what will interest the audience most.

CommOCEAN is primarily a communications conference and all delegates are attending to improve, or learn new, communications skills and techniques.
Most will be working in some kind of ocean science institute or organisation and already understand the broad challenges facing the ocean.
All are keen to know about the results or impact of communications activities, so please include as much evaluation information as you can.

To keep the core of CommOCEAN conferences, the organizing committee has decided to focus the conference programme as in person event. But considering the successful 2020 online edition and the international audience, a reduced online programme will be organised (3h dedicated programme around noon CET via Zoom + web streaming of plenary sessions). Be aware of potential highly competitive selection process for the online session.

Presentations should provide experienced communicators with new ways of working or thinking, introduce new techniques or provide inspiration through examples of highly effective campaigns.

Marine Science Session
CommOCEAN is primarily a science communication conference, but we welcome abstract submissions from researchers about their current marine science research, especially if they are able to show the ways it is being communicated. This could be the perfect opportunity to test a presentation on a public audience. We will be particularly interested to see presentations delivered in novel ways.

3. Online visual + 1 min video:

Visuals presenting (marine) science communication activities and videos will be available to view throughout the conference in an online gallery (“Show and Tell” exhibition - https://commocean.org/online-exhibition). These visuals could be posters, videos, websites, apps, etc. We require a 1-minute video presenting your activity presented at the “Show and Tell” exhibition. The entries should be either:

An example of a public or stakeholder facing entry, presenting an area of research or a campaign.
An entry showing the evaluation of a communications campaign containing information about what was done, and how effective it was.

There will be an award for the best entry, as voted by the conference delegates. The visual entries and presenting videos need to be provided by 21 November 2022
