Successful mission to the West Indies for the DCE Mangroves group !
The “DCE mangrove” group announces the success of its mission to the French West Indies from April 14 to May 6, 2024, during which it sampled 58 mangroves in Guadeloupe and Martinique.
This two-leg campaign brought together microbiologists from MIO (Maud Fiard, Philippe Cuny, Léa Sylvi, Emma Jamon) and BOREA (Cédric Hubas, Caroline Doose), ecologists and biogeochemists from LEMAR (Emma Michaud, Guerric Barrière, Thierry Le Bec) and YSIEB (Pierre-Yves Pascal), and botanists and modelers from IRD (Christophe Proisy, Sophie Gonzalez, Lucile Lacourte).
A total of 1,800 surface sediment samples were collected for biological and physicochemical analyses, which will be used to continue the research carried out since 2017 for the Water Framework Directive. This work, carried out hand in hand with the OFB and the Guadeloupe and Martinique Water Offices, aims to propose bioindicators of the types and levels of anthropogenic pressure in overseas mangroves.
