We are pleased to announce the publication of a special e-book issue, co-published by\u00a0Frontiers in Marine Science<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Frontiers in Microbiology<\/em>.<\/p>

Co-ordinated by Sophie Bonnet (M.I.O) & C\u00e9cile Guieu (L.O.V), with the support of international co-editors, this special issue brings together a series of scientific papers devoted to the impact of hydrothermal activity and undersea volcanism on ocean chemistry and plankton dynamics. It highlights the importance of interdisciplinary approaches, at the interface between oceanography, microbiology and geosciences, to improve our understanding of how the ocean system works.<\/p>

This special issue is closely linked to the international project\u00a0TONGA<\/strong>, jointly supported by the\u00a0Mediterranean Institute of Oceanography (MIO)<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0Villefranche Oceanography Laboratory (LOV)<\/strong>, in the South Pacific. The project brought together researchers from twenty international institutes to study the influence of shallow submarine volcanoes on ocean biogeochemistry and the carbon cycle.<\/p>

The e-book<\/a> is available online, as well as all of the publications from the TONGA project.<\/a><\/p>
