To mark World Ocean Day, from 8 to 11 June the Mus\u00e9e Subaquatique de Marseille will be showcasing bioluminescent art installations just a few hundred metres from the Plage des Catalans! The project is the brainchild of artist-researchers Jeremie Brugidou, winner of the IM\u00e9RA - Institut d'\u00e9tudes avanc\u00e9es d'Aix-Marseille Universit\u00e9 grant, and Nadia Merad Coliac, in collaboration with scientists Laurie Casalot (IRD) and Christian Tamburini (CNRS) at the Institut M\u00e9diterran\u00e9en d'Oc\u00e9anologie -MIO.<\/p>

An underwater exhibition, from 8 to 11 June<\/p>

To highlight the importance of preserving the oceans, and the Mediterranean Sea in particular, the city of Marseille is organising a new kind of exhibition: ten hermetically sealed globes containing bioluminescent bacteria found in the Mediterranean, as identified by the MIO, will be suspended in the open sea. An enchanting light will illuminate the sculptures in the underwater gallery, allowing the public to marvel at their timeless visit.\u00a0
Made from 100% recycled material (and recyclable by Clem and Madreperla), the illuminated globes will be accessible and visible from the shore, forming a circle of blue light.<\/p>

A campaign to raise awareness of ocean protection\u00a0<\/p>

A discovery tent will also be set up on the Catalans beach to raise awareness and provide information on the loss of biodiversity and pollution in the Mediterranean. MIO experts will be leading fun activities for younger visitors.\u00a0<\/p>
