SUMMARY:UArctic Congress 2026 & Ocean Connectivity Conference
DESCRIPTION:UArctic Congress 2026\nPlease note : The deadline for abstract submissions has been extended to 15 January 2026. \nWe invite abstract proposals aligned with the sessions that have been accepted. \nWhen submitting\, authors are instructed to select the relevant session from a list shown during the submission process and available also here. \nThe themes of the UArctic Congress 2026 follow The Kingdom of Denmark’s Arctic Council Chairship priorities\, focusing on climate change\, sustainable development\, and the well-being of Arctic peoples. \n‍We welcome abstracts under the following six main themes: \n\n\n Sustainable Economic Development and International Cooperation\n Oceans\n Climate Change in the Arctic\n Biodiversity\n Indigenous Peoples and Northern Communities\n 6. Other\n\nSession and Presentation Formats\nSessions at the UArctic Congress 2026 include oral presentations\, poster presentations\, panel discussions and roundtable discussions. These sessions are either open for abstract submissions or closed\, meaning that session owners are responsible for selecting and confirming speakers for their session (closed sessions are still open for all registered Congress participants to attend). \nWorkshops and meetings will also take place and are\, in most cases\, closed – both in terms of selecting active participants and general attendance. However\, this may vary depending on the purpose of the session. The “owner” of the workshop or meeting is responsible for coordinating with the Congress organisers to clarify expected participant numbers and agree on any specific requirements\, ensuring that suitable facilities and arrangements can be made in due time. \nFor full theme descriptions and a list of sub-themes\, please read the full call for session proposals. Session proposals that do not directly match a listed theme may be submitted under the category “Other”\, provided their relevance is clearly explained. \nWe especially encourage sessions that include the participation of Indigenous peoples\, youth\, and local communities\, and that apply transdisciplinary approaches to research and dialogue. Sessions can include oral and/or poster presentations\, panel discussions\, and roundtable dialogues. The official language of the Congress is English. \n\nIn summary\n\n ‍Abstracts are required for oral presentations\, poster presentations\, panel discussions\, and roundtable discussions that are open for submissions.\n Closed sessions do not require abstracts\, but session owners must submit a list of speakers by the deadline of 15 January 2026.\n Workshops and meetings will also take place but do not require abstract submissions.\n\n‍\nAll sessions will be held exclusively onsite at the arena við Tjarnir\, at Atlagøta\, Hoyvík\, Faroe Islands. \n\nImportant Dates\n\n \n\n Session proposal submissions : By 31 July 2025\n Accepted session announcement : End of September 2025\n Abstract submission : 1 November 2025 – 15 January 2026\n Accepted abstract announcement : January – February 2026\n\n\n\n \nMore information\n \nOcean Connectivity Conference\nAn international conference organized by the Kingdom of Denmark’s Chairship of the Arctic Council in partnership with UArctic. The event is hosted by the University of the Faroe Islands and embedded in UArctic Congress 2026. \n\n\n What : International ocean conference dedicated to Sub Arctic and High Arctic connectivity embedded in UArctic Congress 2026.\n ‍Who : The conference is part of the official program of the Kingdom of Denmark’s Chairship of the Arctic Council (2025-2027) and will be embedded in the UArctic Congress 2026.\n ‍Registration : Those registered for UArctic Congress 2026 will have access to the Chairship Ocean Conference\n\nThe Arctic is predominantly covered by oceans. The Arctic seas are of immense importance for the people in the Arctic and in articular Indigenous Peoples and their communities who depend on the health of the sea for their livelihoods and way of life. Ongoing warming and the reduction of sea ice call upon us to step up monitoring developments and to identify the drivers of change thereby enhancing predictability and effective management of the changing marine environment. \nThe Kingdom of Denmark’s Chairship of the Arctic Council is organizing the international Ocean Connectivity Conference dedicated to Sub Arctic and High Arctic connectivity. The conference will emphasize implications for biodiversity and migrating species\, climate change impacts\, pollutant transport and the movement of species between regions\, including movement of invasive species to the High Arctic. It will also highlight the significance of sustainable management practices for the Arctic marine environment\, reinforcing the importance of responsible Arctic marine monitoring and governance. The aim is to facilitate knowledge exchange initiatives and connect research findings and Indigenous Knowledge with a view to establishing best practices. The Ocean conference will be aligned with the Ocean Decade agenda. \n \nMore information
