SUMMARY:MonGOOS General Assembly & Workshop 2025
DESCRIPTION:The state of the Mediterranean Sea evolves across multiple time and spatial scales\, driven by both external forcing and internal dynamics. From large\, quasi-steady currents spanning hundreds of kilometers to mesoscale\, submesoscale\, and small-scale turbulence at just a few meters\, these processes strongly influence the basin’s biogeochemistry\, productivity\, and overall health. \nWith climate change amplifying existing pressures—such as intense maritime traffic\, overfishing\, mass tourism\, pollution\, biodiversity loss\, and habitat degradation—understanding these multiscale interactions has never been more critical. Advancing our knowledge is key to predicting the basin’s future and safeguarding its ecosystems and societies. \nAs in previous years\, the General Assembly will precede the workshop\, taking place on 2 December 2025. \n \nImportant Dates\n\n 	01 August 2025 : Call for abstracts opens\n 	31 October 2025 : Deadline for registration & abstract submission\n\n \nSubmit your registration and abstracts\nFurther information\, including logistics and the detailed program\, will be shared soon. \n\nPlease also see the leaflet for more details

SUMMARY:Croco Webminar - Friday\, February 6th\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this initiative is to provide thematic talks about specific modules (e.g.\, MUSTANG for sediment\, biogeochemistry models available) or key features (e.g.\, non-hydrostatic capabilities with NBQ\, nesting with AGRIF\, or output handling with XIOS). The philosophy of these talks is not only to highlight CROCO’s capabilities but also to openly discuss current limitations and constraints. Please note that the technical prerequisites required to follow the talks may vary from session to session. \nWe aim to schedule 4 to 5 sessions per year (roughly one every two to three months). We welcome abstracts from diverse presentations from physical\, chemical\, géological\, biogeochemical\, biological\, ecological\, and modeling aspects of the Mediterranean sea that will highlight how climate change has impacted this important ecosystem in the past and present and what is predicted for the futur. \nClimate change and anthropogenic impacts on the Mediterranean Sea – Past\, Present\, and Future ecosystem responses \nCo-Chairs : Eric Achterberg\, Ilana Berman-Frank\, Thierry Moutin\, Yizhaq Makovsky\, Tom Browning \nThe Mediterranean Sea is one of the most rapidly changing ocean basins on our planet impacted by both climate change and extensive anthropogenic pressures\, which will have significant environmental and socio-economic consequences. The Mediterranean is characterized by increasing temperatures and salinity combined with decreasing nutrient availability and productivity from west to east. Moreover\, it is unique in that deep water temperatures are almost 10 °C higher compared to other ocean basins. The study of the Mediterranean is essential as it serves as a natural laboratory to gain mechanistic and quantitative understanding of biogeochemical and ecosystem transitions of a future (sub)tropical ocean (covering 40% of the global ocean) affected by global warming and other anthropogenic pressures. In this session we invite research related to climate and anthropogenic change impacts on the Mediterranean Sea from the past and present as well as research predicting the response/s of ecosystems in the future. We welcome diverse presentations from physical\, chemical\, geological\, biogeochemical\, biological and ecological\, and modeling aspects of the Mediterranean Sea. We anticipate that this session will provide a comprehensive overview of the sensitivity and resilience of the Mediterranean Sea to climate and anthropogenic pressures.
