{"id":7222,"date":"2019-03-02T21:56:32","date_gmt":"2019-03-02T20:56:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mio.osupytheas.fr\/fr\/archive_page\/tracfire-fires-and-domestic-burning-whats-the-impact-on-the-western-mediterranean-sea\/"},"modified":"2019-03-02T21:56:32","modified_gmt":"2019-03-02T20:56:32","slug":"tracfire-fires-and-domestic-burning-whats-the-impact-on-the-western-mediterranean-sea","status":"publish","type":"archive_page","link":"https:\/\/www.mio.osupytheas.fr\/fr\/tracfire-fires-and-domestic-burning-whats-the-impact-on-the-western-mediterranean-sea\/","title":{"rendered":"TRACFIRE &#8211; Fires and domestic burning : what&#8217;s the impact on the western Mediterranean Sea"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"basic-page-content\" class=\"page-content\">    <div class=\"content\">    <div class=\"container-fluid\">      <div class=\"row\">                  <div class=\"container clearfix\">            <div class=\"row\">              <div class=\"col-xs-12\">                              <\/div>            <\/div>          <\/div>                                  <div class=\"paragraphs\">            <div class=\"paragraphs-items paragraphs-items-field-paragraphs paragraphs-items-field-paragraphs-full paragraphs-items-full\">  <div class=\"field field-name-field-paragraphs field-type-paragraphs field-label-hidden\"><div class=\"field-items\"><div class=\"field-item even\"><section class=\"paragraph-section paragraph-texte-simple paragraph-blanc\">  <div class=\"container\">             <div class=\"paragraph-content\">        <h3 class=\"rtejustify\">TRACking Fires and domestIc buRning using carbon isotopEs over the western Mediterranean Sea<\/h3><p class=\"rtejustify\">\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"rtejustify\"><strong>Responsible<\/strong> : <a href=\"mailto:christos.panagiotopoulos@mio.osupytheas.fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christos Panagiotopoulos<\/a> &#8211; MIO<\/p><p class=\"rtejustify\"><strong>Participants au projet<\/strong> : J\u00e9r\u00f4me Balesdent (INRA-CEREGE), Edouard Bard (CEREGE), Amel Nouara<\/p><p class=\"rtejustify\"><strong>Funded by<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.otmed.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OT-MED LABEX<\/a><\/p><p class=\"rtejustify\">\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"rtejustify\">TRACFIRE aims to assess the origin and the age of burning biomass tracers such as anhydrosugars using wet chemistry and compound specific isotopic measurements (d13C, D14C) on individual molecules (levoglucosan) emitted from domestic burning, fires or other biogenic sources and are important contributors to the carbonaceous fraction of the airborne particles.<\/p><p class=\"rtejustify\">The same analyses will be performed in the surface seawater (high molecular weight dissolved organic matter) to assess the origin of levoglucosan (d13C evoglucosan terrestrial vs marine ?) and provide evidence about its eventual transport from land to sea.<\/p><p class=\"rtejustify\">To do so we will perform successive sample purifications employing cation exchange preparative chromatography to produce pure monosaccharide targets (levoglucosan and other related carbohydrate compounds) for subsequent molecular level isotopic analyses.<\/p><p class=\"rtejustify\">Molecular 13 C and 14C analyses will be performed using an EA-IRMS and EA-AixMICADAS, respectively (facilities available at the CEREGE).<\/p><p class=\"rtejustify\">\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"rtecenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/ancien-site\/images\/tracfire.jpg\" style=\"width: 498px; height: 600px;\" width=\"498\" height=\"600\"><\/p><h4>Results<\/h4><p class=\"rtejustify\">The obtained results revealed that for the marine particulate organic matter (POM) sample, the \u03b413C values of the individual carbohydrates ranged from \u221218.5 to \u221216.8\u2030, except for levoglucosan and mannosan, which presented values of \u221227.2\u00a0 and \u221226.2\u2030, respectively.<\/p><p class=\"rtejustify\">For the total suspended atmopsheric particle (TSP) sample, the \u03b413C values ranged from \u221226.4 to \u221225.0\u2030. The galactose and glucose D14C values were 19 and 43\u2030, respectively, for the POM sample.
