Les syst\u00e8mes hydrothermaux et les volcans sous-marins sont des sources naturelles de mercure, mais l&#8217;ampleur des \u00e9missions, leur transport et leur impact sur les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes marins sont encore mal compris. Quantifier les flux naturels de mercure est essentiel pour comprendre les perturbations anthropiques et orienter les strat\u00e9gies de r\u00e9duction efficaces. Nous avons \u00e9tudi\u00e9 les apports de mercure hydrothermal dans l&#8217;arc volcanique des Tonga et leur impact sur l&#8217;\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me local. Nos r\u00e9sultats montrent que l&#8217;activit\u00e9 hydrothermale et volcanique dans l&#8217;arc des Tonga augmente les concentrations de mercure dans l&#8217;eau de mer. Des enqu\u00eates compl\u00e8tes ont permis d&#8217;identifier des panaches riches en mercure (jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 22,7 pmol L\u22121) associ\u00e9s \u00e0 de forts flux de mercure (4763 pmol m\u22122 jour\u22121) atteignant les eaux superficielles productives, ce qui donne un flux total estim\u00e9 de 4,23 t par an pour l&#8217;ensemble de l&#8217;arc des Tonga. Malgr\u00e9 ces apports importants, les concentrations de mercure dans le phytoplancton restent \u00e9tonnamment faibles. Nous montrons que les blooms de phytoplancton, stimul\u00e9s par la fertilisation naturelle en fer provenant des sources hydrothermales, diluent le mercure au niveau cellulaire, r\u00e9duisant ainsi l&#8217;impact du mercure hydrothermal.
