The Hackathon - Fête de la science 2024

The regional coordination of the Fête de la Science Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur offered a new opportunity to get our collective brains working !

Organized by the Petits Débrouillards Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, the day of April 19 was a unique opportunity to collectively imagine and create innovative mediation tools that could be used at scientific and technical culture events in the region, and in particular at the Fête de la Science 2024 (October 4 to 14, 2024).

Two projects, one MIO & the second OSU PYTHEAS, have been selected.

The Plasma Project (Microplastic pollution - Mayotte lagoon), led by Cristèle Chevalier and Léa Guyomar'ch from MIO, aims to raise public awareness, particularly among young people (middle and high schools), of the problem of anthropogenic pollution and its impact on marine ecosystems, especially as pollution can originate in places other than those where marine ecosystems are impacted, and thus bring about a change in behavior. As part of the hakathon, we're thinking about creating an educational kit with classroom activities, including an activity, a presentation at the Palais de la Découverte and a board game.

The second project, supported by OSU Pythéas, puts you In the shoes of an oceanologist for a moment. It is led by young students from AMU's IMST (Information et médiation scientifique et technique) ISME course. The aim is to inform and raise awareness among the general public about anthropogenic pressures on the ocean. The young project leaders drew on the scientific expertise of MIO oceanologist Sandrine Ruitton, who reminds us of the urgent need to preserve the marine environment.

The project is based on a simulated oceanologist's work environment, where participants will have to carry out a variety of missions.

Come along to the Fête de la science to discover these achievements !
