10 years of "Les Drisses de la Réussite" at the Lycée Beaussier (La Seyne-sur-Mer) with the MIO

The "Cordées de la Réussite" scheme, set up in 2008 by the French Minister for Higher Education and Research and the Secretary of State for Urban Policy, aims to promote access to the best courses of study by inspiring, encouraging and developing scientific vocations and careers among students from disadvantaged neighbourhoods.

A Cordée is set up between a Cordée leader (university laboratory) and source establishments (collèges, lycées). The Cordée "Les Drisses de la Réussite" was set up when the scheme was launched in 2008 between the PROTEE laboratory and the Lycée Beaussier. It is now the MIO laboratory that is leading the Cordée "Les Drisses de la Réussite", which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year!

On the occasion of this anniversary, testimonies of 10 years of journey of the 10 cordées were presented. Various scientific issues have been tackled over these 10 years, including dredged sediments, their impact and recovery, environmental pollution linked to cigarette butts, the study of compost, and most recently microplastics and their impact on the environment. The two-day event on 16 and 17 October at the Lycée Beaussier was attended by the Cordée's teacher-researchers (S. Mounier & N. Patel), as well as the doctoral students and staff who have been involved in the Cordée over the last 10 years (A. El Houssainy, N. Layglon, S. d'Onofrio, A. Nouhi, B. Oursel, C. Neytard, etc.).

On Wednesday 16th, in the presence of the Director of the Science and Technology UFR at Toulon University, the Principal of Henri Wallon College, the Principal of Beaussier High School, the Inspector of Education and representatives of the Mayor of La Seyne and Toulon Provence Méditerranée (TPM), the high school students' testimonies were poignant and full of lessons on the role of the cordées in their personal and academic careers and training.

On Thursday 17th, round-table discussions took place throughout the day between the beneficiaries of the "cordées", doctoral candidates and students from Henri Wallon and Marie Curie secondary schools. In addition, research activities at the University of Toulon, and in particular at the MIO laboratory, were presented to the final year classes at the Lycée Beaussier.

Finally, the 2019-2020 "cordée", a group of 8 young first-year students from the Lycée Beaussier, presented the PLASTI-CODE project to the assembly. This project will be carried out in conjunction with the MIO and MAPIEM laboratories and will be supervised by two doctoral students, I. Sanou (MIO) and Alexandre Salah (MAPIEM). Sanou (MIO) and Alexandre Salah (MAPIEM) throughout the year.
