Le 24 Januarywas held in Rome, at Ministero dell'Agricoltura, della Sovranità alimentare e delle Foreste with the support of Ministero dell'Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica, a workshop on Gestion of blue crab in the Mediterranean.
Our colleague Guillaume Marchessaux, IRD research fellow at the MIO, recruited as a blue crab expert consultant at the Specially Protected Areas Regional Activity Centre (SPA/RAC), presented in plenary session the state of the art of knowledge on the invasion of blue crabs 𝐶𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑠 𝑠𝑎𝑝𝑖𝑑𝑢𝑠 and 𝑃𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑢𝑛𝑢𝑠 𝑠𝑒𝑔𝑛𝑖𝑠 in the Mediterranean. He led a round table with 43 participants from 16 Mediterranean countries to discuss and propose a list of recommendations for better international management of blue crabs in the Mediterranean.
Two reports produced by Guillaume Marchessaux will shortly be published by the SPA/RAC. One on the state of knowledge on the invasion of blue crabs in the Mediterranean, and the second on expert recommendations on the management and control of blue crabs.
