2026 BiodivConnect - Restoring the functionality, integrity and connectivity of ecosystems - Biodiversa+ 2026

The call BiodivConnect is being launched by the European Biodiversity Partnership as part of Horizon Europe - Biodiversa+. As part of the flagship programme "Supporting the protection and restoration of biodiversity on land and at sea", it will help to achieve one of the partnership's strategic objectives: to produce applied, practical and usable knowledge to support transformative change aimed at halting and reversing the decline in biodiversity (Biodiversa+ Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda).

BiodivConnect aims to support innovative research that will contribute to achieving and respecting commitments relating to biodiversity at European and global level by and beyond 2030 (e.g. Kumming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework). The results will be designed to be integrated into nature restoration practices. The aim is to promote ecosystems and habitats that are interconnected and ecologically functional. Particular attention is paid to the sustainability and adaptability of restoration actions, and to assessing their effectiveness over time and at different spatial scales (local, regional, cross-border, global, etc.).

The call covers all types of ecosystems and habitats, in all regions of the world. It supports high-quality research and innovation projects adopting holistic, systemic and integrated approaches. The projects proposed may cover various aspects such as: different categories of indicators; multi-scale studies and transposability of restoration efforts; taking into account ecological, socio-economic and socio-cultural dimensions, and/or different levels of environmental regulation and policies, harmonisation, etc.

BiodivConnect is organised around three main subjects which are not mutually exclusive and which may overlap:

  • Topic 1: Defining restoration objectives and measuring success
  • Topic 2: Generalisation and transferability of nature restoration efforts
  • Topic 3: Long-term sustainability of restoration efforts

Deadline for submission of detailed proposals : 14 April 2026 at 12:00 CEST
