Polar Institute call for projects 2026 - Letter of intent for autumn 2025 & spring 2026 sessions

We are pleased to announce the opening of the Polar Institute's 2026 annual call for projects, which will follow a two-stage process for all new projects.

The first stage assesses the pre-proposals submitted in the form of letters of intent, and this assessment defines the project teams that will then be invited to submit a detailed proposal. Two periods have been defined for the submission and evaluation of pre-proposals, in autumn and spring, while the submission of detailed proposals remains annual (deadline for submission mid-July).

The submission of a letter of intent concerns all new projects (by new projects is meant all projects that have never been supported by the Polar Institute and all projects that have already been submitted and evaluated but have not yet been supported) that may be carried out in both hemispheres, in the Arctic, Subarctic, Antarctic and Subantarctic polar regions. For the southern hemisphere, projects may start from the 2027/2028 summer campaign or the 2028 wintering season; for the northern hemisphere, projects may start in January 2027.

For all new projects, we invite you to send us your letter of intent using the following mask online.

Important The submission of a letter of intent provides an initial assessment of the scientific and operational feasibility of the projects. However, the Polar Institute does not yet have full visibility of the ships' schedules, the number of ship rotations, the number of places available in the stations (Concordia, Dumont d'Urville, Amsterdam, Kerguelen, Crozet), nor of the budgets we will have available to support projects in 2027 in the Arctic, and for the 2027/2028 summer campaign and the 2028 wintering in the Antarctic and subantarctic regions. The submission of a letter of intent and the invitation to submit a full proposal do not constitute proof of definitive validation of the feasibility of the project, which will take place at the latest during the final project arbitration phase (December 2026 to February 2027).

The deadline for submitting letters of intent for the autumn session by email is 10 November 2025 (for the autumn session) and at the 2 March 2026 (for the spring session); your proposals should be sent to : david.renault@ipev.fr, valerie.hadoux@ipev.fr.
