This award is the culmination of tremendous recognition and an opportunity - with the support of the Conseil DΓ©partemental du Var - to implement a Plan to regulate the blue crab invasion in the Var.

This control plan project is the result of collaboration between the IRD, the Mediterranean Institute of Oceanography (MIO) and the site managers of the Hyères salt marshes (Toulon Provence Méditerranée) and the Etang de Villepey (Estérel Côte d'Azur Agglomération), with the aim of finding practical solutions to the invasion of the blue crab.

This prize is a major recognition of this innovative, integrated approach, which combines research, local action and awareness-raising to provide practical, transferable solutions to the challenges posed by invasive species in the context of climate change. It helps to strengthen the scope of this work at regional, national and international level, in the interests of biodiversity, ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
