Mediterranean: scientific expertise for decision-makers" conference

The Mediterranean is one of the regions most sensitive to pollution of all kinds and to ongoing climate change. A realistic sustainable development policy that guarantees the stability of Mediterranean countries must be based on the most recent scientific findings.

Since the adoption of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) under the aegis of UNEP 40 years ago, followed by the creation of the Union for the Mediterranean 10 years ago, scientific research such as the MISTRALS programme (2010-2020) has been organised to understand the mechanisms and impacts at play behind global changes in the Mediterranean. More recently, in 2015, a synthesis effort was initiated within an international network of independent scientific experts (MedECC) to make these results useful to decision-makers.

On the occasion of the end of the MISTRALS programme and the release of the first MedECC assessment report and the 2019 report on the state of the environment and development in the Mediterranean coordinated by Plan Bleu within the framework of MAP/UNEP, this conference will provide an opportunity to take stock of the information available and to organise a dialogue between decision-makers and scientists on climate and environmental issues in the Mediterranean.

In this context, we are pleased to invite you to the international conference "The Mediterranean: scientific expertise for decision-makers", which will take place from 2 to 4 September 2020 in Marseille (France).

Please confirm your participation before 16 July 2020 by registering online on the conference website: https://med2020.sciencesconf.org/.

More information will be available shortly, including the detailed programme. At this stage, there are no plans to cover costs.
