Focusing mainly on the issue of sargassum, the visit took place all day on 30 October 2018.
It provided an opportunity for rich, dense and constructive discussions on the subject of sargassum.
Here is an outline of the visit to the MIO laboratory in the OCEANOMED building:
Morning:
- Senator Dominique Théophile introduces the role of his mission and his visit 10'.
- Richard Sempéré, director of the MIO, presents the 10' laboratory
- Frédéric Ménard (director of the IRD's OCEANS department) will introduce the sargassum context 10 minutes
- Thierry Thibaut (Lecturer and researcher at the MIO) presents the biology of sargassum and campaigns at sea 15'.
- Quentin Langevin (post-doc at the MIO) presents work on population genetics 15 minutes
- Léo Berline (Lecturer at the MIO) presents his work on Lagrangian modelling. 15
