Take part in the INDIA Mission (Mumbai, Kochi and Chennai) - Maritime Safety - Naval and port activity - 25-29 November 2019 - Reminder
Take part in the mission that the Marine Poles are organising in India from 25 to 29 November 2019 on the theme of Maritime Safety, Naval and Port Activity.
This mission, subsidised by the DGE and organised by Business France, is divided into two parts, one collective with meetings and site visits (see the pre-programme) and the other individual with BtoB meetings.
The amount of the offer will be given to you as soon as possible and the attached programme may change according to the profiles of the companies registered.
India is the 16th largest maritime country, with 7,500 km of coastline and 12 main ports. The share of maritime transport in the country's trade amounts to 90 % in volume and 70 % in value. Sagarmala is a programme launched by the Indian government in 2015 to develop new ports, modernise existing ones, create coastal economic zones and link ports to industrial corridors. Within this framework, the government wants to develop 12 coastal economic zones with an investment of up to EUR 100 billion (INR 8 Lakh Crore) by 2020. There is also a need for renewable and ecological solutions and technologies for the development of sustainable and green ports.
The Indian government and the Indian Navy are giving a strong impetus to the 'Make in India' initiative for the construction and repair of civil and naval vessels. The key areas for Make in India are ship design, automation, technology and training. University partnerships are also strongly sought to encourage innovation, exchange and transfer of know-how.
The Navy plans to acquire 200 ships by 2027, compared with its current fleet of 145. It also wants to replace 26 warships and 11 submarines over 20 years old, and should have between 25 and 30 submarines, compared with the current 13. According to recent emission standards, dictated by the International Maritime Organization, India will need to collaborate on environmentally-friendly technologies and solutions such as LNG-powered ships.
India's long coastline presents a range of challenges, including maritime terrorism, smuggling, transnational crime, drug trafficking and illegal immigration. These challenges are further compounded by natural disasters, oil spills and the effects of climate change threatening the country's national interests. A significant proportion of India's foreign trade and energy sources transit through the Indian Ocean region. The Indian Coast Guard, a multi-mission organisation responsible for coastal security in territorial waters, aims to have a force of 175 ships and 110 aircraft by 2022, compared with its current strength of 130 ships.
