Le BioSWOT AdAC project (PI F.d'Ovidio, LOCEAN-IPSL, co-PIs A.M.Doglioli and G.Grégori, MIO) has been accepted by the NASA/CNES joint call.
The aim of this project is to make scientific use of the very first observations from the future SWOT satellite (Surface Water and Ocean Topography) beyond physical oceanography, focusing in particular on current biophysical issues.
The SWOT satellite is due to be launched in 2022 and researchers from the international consortium BioSWOT Adopt A Cross Over are planning a series of oceanographic campaigns at several sites in the global ocean to develop multidisciplinary in situ experiments designed to study the fine-scale dynamics of ocean currents and their role in structuring marine biodiversity.
