The R/V L'Atalante has begun sampling the Strait of Gibraltar. An MVP (Moving Vessel Profiler) has been deployed to take hydrological measurements at a spatial resolution of 1 km. The MVP is a towed vehicle equipped with conductivity, temperature and depth (CTD) sensors. It is capable of measuring parameters (temperature, salinity (by conductivity), density and pressure) in the water column (from the surface to around 300 m), at a speed of 4-6 knots.
