The United Nations Conference on the Oceans is taking place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 27 June to 1 July. The Conference is organised around the theme: "Strengthening science and innovation-based action on oceans for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: stocktaking, partnerships and solutions".
Co-organised by Kenya and Portugal, the United Nations Conference on the Oceans brings together Member States, international bodies, the scientific and academic communities, non-governmental organisations, civil society and the private sector.
It is part of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development, an initiative launched in 2021 to mobilise stakeholders around a joint programme of research and technological innovation.
