APERO Programme (Assessing marine biogenic matter Production, Export and Remineralization: from the surface to the dark Ocean, PI: L. Memery, C. Tamburini, L. Guidi)
This research programme, funded by the ANR, LEFE and CNES, aims to understand the main routes by which organic matter is exported to the deep ocean at a site in the north-east Atlantic. The campaign, scheduled to run from 5 June to 16 July 2023, will involve two ships, the Pourquoi Pas? and the Thalassa, with the aim of combining experiments to measure vertical fluxes with coverage of biological and physical variability at the surface. This project will bring together a wide range of scientific communities working on physical processes, biogeochemical cycles and diversity (via observation, imaging and omics methods), from viruses to small pelagics. The MIO will be hosting around fifty participants at this campaign preparation meeting.
