ANR HOT_Hg Kick-off meeting (PI: Lars Eric Heimburger-Boavida)

A big thank you to everyone who made last week's ANR HOT_Hg launch meeting a success.

The first day was packed with presentations and discussions, followed by 3 days of training devoted to sampling and analysis, covering the deep hydrothermal vents of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (A), the East Pacific Rise & Tonga Back Arc (B), and the South-West Indian Ocean Ridge (C).

A new aspect of the project involves studying shallow hydrothermal vents, for which 5 sites have been selected: 1. Panarea (Italy), 2. Milos (Greece), 3. Acores (Portugal), 4. Prony Bay (New Caledonia, France), and 5. Bahia Conception (Mexico).

Our PhD students Natalia Torres Rodriguez and Jingjing Yuan will be carrying out most of the biogeochemistry work. They will be joined by 2 new PhD students: Ester Lopez Garcia (UPPA-UA) will be working on microbiology and bioinformatics under the supervision of Marisol Goni, Andrea Bravo and Lea Cabrol. Emma Fabre (URCA) will be working on biology-biomagnification processes, under the supervision of Claudia Cosio, Anne Lorrain and Lars Eric Heimburger Boavida.

Later on, we will hire a 2-year postdoc, advised by Vincent Rossi and Lars Eric Heimburger. A lot of elements come out of hydrothermal vents, so get in touch with us if you're interested in collaborating.
