The third International Summer School of the OHP (Observatoire de Haute-Provence), organised by the Institut des Origines of the University of Aix-Marseille, will explore the notion of life, from its definition to the conditions of its emergence, diversity and evolution. These fundamental questions will be addressed through lectures given by internationally renowned experts in prebiotic chemistry, microbiology, exobiology, planetology, astrophysics, as well as philosophy and law. These lectures will be followed by round-table discussions moderated by an award-winning science journalist, as well as plenty of free time for exchanges between participants.
The programme will offer a broad, interdisciplinary view of the frontiers of life, reviewing current knowledge and competing theories, and covering all spatial and temporal scales.
As well as stimulating individual reflection on the definition of life, this summer school also aims to attract young scientists to this multi-faceted field of research.
