This regional programme, launched in 2019, is an initiative of the French development cooperation agency and its partners in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. This year, Capes (Brazil) will be taking part in the Climate programme for the first time.
The IRD is represented on the programme by Frédérique Seyler on the management committee and Stéphane Calmant on the scientific committee, which he also chairs.
The aim of the programme is to promote and strengthen collaboration and the creation of research and development networks, and to fund research projects related to climate variability and climate change, through the implementation of joint research projects.
Cooperation arrangements: Presentation of joint research and development projects, involving exchanges of researchers between the participating teams (research visits), scientific workshops and/or summer universities for the participation of permanent staff, young researchers, researchers and students. Each 2-year project must involve at least one French research group and at least two South American countries participating in the CLIMAT AmSud programme. Also, the development of regional research projects with three or more countries in the region associated with the programme will be highly valued when the project is assessed.
Projects must include at least one mobility from France to South America and from South America to France. Exchanges may only take place between member countries of the programme. These exchanges must last 30 days or less.
In terms of thematic areas, the CLIMAT AmSud call is open to all research projects related to climate variability and climate change. This includes projects in the physical, biological, environmental, agricultural, social and human sciences, focusing on the scientific foundations of climate change, its impacts, our adaptation and vulnerability to its effects and mitigation. Projects can cover all disciplines with an interdisciplinary approach.
As each institution is responsible for the mobility of its researchers, it is strongly recommended that researchers contact the IRD's scientific departments before responding to the call. We thank you in advance for passing on this request to any researchers who contact you regarding this call.
Please find attached the text of the call in French and Spanish common to the three programmes: STIC, MATH and CLIMAT AmSud. As a reminder, the IRD is only a member of the Climate programme.
