The selection campaign for members of the Institut universitaire de France (IUF) 2023 will be open from Monday 5 September at 12:00 on the ministerial application.
200 IUF chairs will be open to competition under the Research Programming Act (LPR) promulgated on 24/12/2020 :
100 Junior Chairs, including 80 Fundamental Chairs, 15 Innovation Chairs* and 5 Science Mediation Chairs**;
100 Senior Chairs, including 80 Fundamental Chairs, 15 Innovation Chairs and 5 Science Mediation Chairs.
The notions of Innovation and Scientific Mediation should be understood as follows, on the understanding that they should be considered as added values to the traditional scientific excellence of IUF applications.
*Innovation: a project aimed at transferring and promoting research work to companies (existing or those created as a result), local authorities, the voluntary sector and the general public, and which, by applying the research, fosters real innovation. The work involved may be methodological and/or technological, groundbreaking or incremental. The projects identified should have a measurable positive impact on the economy, society, culture, public policy or services of public interest.
**Scientific mediation: a project aimed at developing relations between higher education and research establishments and society, with the aim of enlightening citizens and the public debate on major societal issues, based on a scientific culture and approach. The projects identified may involve recognised partners (centres for scientific, technical and industrial culture, science centres, museums, the media, associations, etc.) and create participatory research initiatives with citizens and/or public decision-makers.

The model application file will be available at the start of the campaign on the IUF website, where the submission procedures are specified. Candidates must indicate their choice of candidacy: fundamental chair, innovation chair or scientific mediation chair. Candidates wishing to apply for a Fundamental Chair can make a double choice by completing an additional section at the end of the application form: Fundamental Chair/Innovation or Fundamental Chair/Scientific Mediation.
Complete applications and letters of recommendation must be submitted on the IUF submission site before midnight Paris time on 7 November for all candidates (Juniors and Seniors).
