L'University Institute of France comprises junior and senior members. They are appointed to the IUF for a period of five years and placed in a delegated position. They continue to carry out their activities in their home university, benefiting from a reduction of 2/3 of their teaching duties and specific research credits.
Junior and senior members are appointed by the Minister for Higher Education and Research, on the recommendation of two separate international juries.
Two hundred IUF chairs will be open to competition at the start of the 2025 academic year under the terms of the Research Programming Act (LPR) promulgated on 24 December 2020:
- 100 junior chairs, including 80 fundamental chairs, 15 innovation chairs and 5 scientific mediation chairs;
- 100 senior chairs, including 80 fundamental chairs, 15 innovation chairs and 5 scientific mediation chairs.
