EC2CO: Structuring Initiative Continental and Coastal Ecosphere
Financed by : CNRS, ANDRA, BRGM, CNES, IFREMER, IFSTTAR, INRA, IRD, IRSTEA, Météo France
Coordinated and managed by : INSU
The EC2CO Structuring Initiative is a programme coordinated by INSU and supported by two other CNRS institutes: INEE in particular and INC . A national initiative, it brings together the following organisations: ANDRA, BRGM, CNES, IFREMER, IFSTTAR, INRA, IRD, IRSTEA, Météo France, and is open to all organisations wishing to participate.
The EC2CO SI and its successive thematic actions have achieved their major objective, namely to federate and then expand a scientific community around major environmental issues that involve interdisciplinary approaches at the interfaces between hydrology, hydrodynamics, ecology and biogeochemistry. The SI EC2CO pays particular attention to taking into account the different types of anthropogenic forcing on the continental and coastal ecosphere, including those resulting from economic and social changes. The projects evaluated must demonstrate their innovative role, enabling original and risky questions to be tested and structuring, for example, through networked observation systems (SO, Soere, Zone Atelier, etc.).
The EC2CO Structuring Initiative is made up of three Thematic Actions (TA), each with its own scientific committee:
- HYBIGE: HYdroBIoGEosystems and their interactions
- DYCOVI: DYnamqiue des COntaminants et interactions avec le VIvant
- MICROBIOME : Microorganisms in the environment
From the 2020 call for proposals onwards, a few more ambitious projects in terms of budget and consortium size may be submitted to EC2CO on a limited number of cross-cutting themes.
Projects are submitted to a single Thematic Action (TA) or to the Transverse Theme. They have a maximum duration of 2 years for TA projects and 3 years for cross-cutting theme projects. A final report must be submitted at the end of the project before submitting an application for a new project.
