EMBracing the Ocean programme

Deadline for submission : 16 février 2026 à minuit CET

The programme EMBracing the Ocean offers grants of €10,000 to creative individuals or groups from a wide range of disciplines to engage in two-way artistic co-creation in collaboration with ocean scientists.

The objectives of the programme are as follows:

  1. raise society's awareness of and attachment to the ocean,
  2. inspire positive behaviour in favour of sustainable development, and
  3. contribute new knowledge and/or perspectives to science.

One of the fundamental principles of the EMBracing the Ocean is co-creation between artists and their scientific collaborators. Co-creation is the process of creating something new together while exchanging and reshaping ideas. Artists and scientists are treated as equals, and both benefit and learn from the process. The aim of co-created art and science projects goes beyond simplifying complex scientific subjects for the general public. It also aims to enable scientists to gain new perspectives on their work through their collaboration with artists.
