Ocean observation is the foundation of marine knowledge. Under this initiative, which builds on the Oceans Pact, the European Commission is proposing a goal-oriented approach that responds to the needs of society. It covers key areas of the knowledge value chain and aims to ensure long-term sustainability, ambition and strategic autonomy in ocean observation, integrate EU maritime services, foster international collaboration and secure international data, ensure co-design and support Member States' capabilities.
