LIFE programme 2021-2027

On 13 July, the European Commission published the 2021-2024 multiannual work programme for the LIFE programme, which is managed by the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and the Environment (CINEA). This programme is the European Commission's financial instrument for supporting environment and climate projects. It is aimed at public and private project promoters and is designed to promote and finance innovative projects in areas such as species and habitat conservation, soil protection, improving air or water quality, waste management, mitigation or adaptation to climate change and the energy transition.

For the period 2021-2027, the LIFE programme will have a budget of €5.4 billion at European level, divided into 2 areas:

An "Environment" theme comprising two sub-programmes:

"Nature and Biodiversity
"Circular economy and quality of life", which covers the themes previously included in the "Environment and efficient use of resources" sub-programme

A "Climate Action" priority comprising the following sub-programmes:

"Climate change mitigation and adaptation
"Transition to clean energy

The first calls for projects for the new LIFE 2021-2027 programme have been launched for the programme's four strands: Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation; Transition to Clean Energy; Circular Economy and Quality of Life; Nature and Biodiversity .

NB:

exceptionally, in 2021, the LIFE call for projects will be structured in a single stage (except for strategic projects - ex integrated projects), with the submission of a full proposal only.
The platform for submitting LIFE projects is changing. Applications will no longer be submitted on the European eProposal platform, but on the "Funding and Tenders" platform. In addition, the entire application format and the structure of the forms have been changed compared with previous years.
