Maupertuis programme: call for applications

The French Institute in Helsinki, the French Embassy in Finland and the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation are once again renewing their partnership this year with the Finnish Society for Science and Letters and the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters to open the call for projects under the seed funding programme to strengthen bilateral cooperation in science, innovation and higher education in areas of interest to both countries.

To this end, three joint programmes are proposed:

Series of lectures by French and Finnish scientists (FRSCS)
This programme invites excellent academics from France or Finland with different research or disciplinary backgrounds to take part in an open dialogue with their counterparts. The visit will include a major public lecture as well as other exchanges with researchers/teachers from the universities or research institutes.

Short-term researcher mobility (RSM)
In order to initiate or strengthen cooperation in the fields of science, innovation and higher education in all research areas of mutual interest, this programme will enable selected researchers from France and Finland to come and meet their counterparts for a short period (1-2 weeks). Doctoral students and young researchers are strongly encouraged to apply!
The objectives of this visit are as follows:
- Discuss the possibilities for concrete collaboration in research and, if possible, higher education (student mobility, double degrees, joint doctorates, submission of joint European projects....).
- To meet and discuss with several researchers at the host institution in order to explore all other possible collaborations, also in a multidisciplinary approach
- Identify the short-, medium- and long-term prospects for collaboration and the official formalisation of cooperation in order to build lasting cooperation between research teams, research laboratories, departments and institutions.

Education, Research and Innovation (ERI-W) workshops
In order to strengthen existing collaborations between researchers in France and in Finland, it is proposed to support concrete and specific workshops in Finland or in France in all areas of research excellence. It is recommended to have targeted and concrete subjects to organise a workshop lasting 2 or 3 days and involving several researchers (around 15 but not limited). These workshops should cover the three pillars of the knowledge triangle:
- Research: initiating, strengthening and encouraging research collaborations to structure cooperation
- Education: to explore, with the help of the scientific and university cooperation attaché, all possibilities for increasing and supporting student mobility, setting up double diplomas, cotutelle doctorates, etc.
- Innovation: to identify opportunities for technology transfer and innovation as well as collaboration with the private sector in each country. The participation of students, companies, technology transfer offices, innovation councils, institutional representatives and local authorities is encouraged.
