We are delighted to welcome Elena Cerdán to the MIO. Elena was one of 40 winners to receive the MOPGA (Make Our Planet Great Again) visiting fellowship for young international researchers in France. MOPGA is an initiative launched in 2017, offering scholarships to researchers from around the world to conduct climate and environmental research in France.
Elena, who recently completed her PhD at the University of Southampton in the UK, has been working on cyanobacterial microbes that fix nitrogen in the open ocean. At the MIO, she will be working on marine nitrogen-fixing microbes and sinking particles with Mar Benavides' team.
