Future Earth Day

9 May 2019

Future Earth is an international research programme whose ambition is to encourage international cooperation, interdisciplinary approaches and science-society interactions in order to accelerate transformations towards sustainable development.

Following the publication in 2018 of the IPCC report on global warming to 1.5°C, the IPBES regional reports, we faced another record year in terms of temperatures and an intense political debate on the societal implications of the environmental emergency. In advance of two new IPCC special reports to be published in 2019, or negotiations to define post-2020 biodiversity targets based on the conclusions of IPBES 7, it is essential to strengthen the role of scientific research in addressing environmental issues and supporting decision-making. At the international level, the Future Earth and WCRP platforms act as a link between researchers, decision-makers and research funders, promoting the development of research capacities and promoting transdisciplinary work for sustainable development.

fter a first Future Earth day in France in December 2016, the French office of Future Earth and the French National Committee for Global Change (CNFCG) are organizing a second event in May 2019. This will be an opportunity for the French community to learn more and share information about the Future Earth program, the activities of its global network and its strategic priorities. The event is open to the research community, Future Earth partners, as well as all stakeholders interested in research for sustainable development.
