Since 1 December 2018, the MIO has welcomed two new researchers:
[-] Frédéric Le Moigne, CNRS research fellow, CEM team, at Luminy/Marseille
[-] Isabelle Navarro, IRD Research Fellow, MEB team, La Garde/Toulon
[Frédéric Le Moigne completed his PhD at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, UK, in 2012 before taking up a contract research position at GEOMAR in Kiel, northern Germany. Frédéric works mainly on the exchange of organic carbon between the surface and the depths of the open ocean. These exchanges take place in the form of what is known as 'marine snow'. This 'marine snow' is essentially made up of planktonic detritus that sinks from the surface to the ocean floor. After being recruited by the CNRS, Frédéric joined the CEM team and the AT biological pump, which is closely linked to his research area.
[Isabelle Navarro's work focuses on the adaptation of bacterial communities in marine environments contaminated by heavy metals. It is based on the complementarity of comparative and functional metagenomic approaches. It will be approached through massive sequencing of metagenomes and the creation of metagenomic libraries enabling functional genes to be targeted.
In a broader context, the objectives are to elucidate the mechanisms of adaptation by considering the cellular, population and community levels.
