The first regional workshopEnvironmental systems in Southeast Asia"organised at theUSTH-VAST by the LMI (international joint laboratory) LOTUS and theIRN (international research network) SOOT-SEAin collaboration with their partners at LMI CAREthe JEAI (young team associated with the IRD) WATER-4C and theIRN PASSPORT-2Cwas held in Hanoi from 5 at 8 December 2023with the support ofIRD (LeO Knowledge Community, OCEANS, DISCO and ECOBIO Scientific Departments) and theUSTH.
The aim of the workshop, which brought together around 80 participants, was to connect scientists from different disciplines, methodologies and fields working on common issues (climate, pollution, the continent-ocean continuum, marine and coastal ecosystems, etc.), in order to encourage the emergence and development of collaborative research and training projects on a regional scale.
The kick-off meeting of the IRN (International Research Network) of the IRD SOOT-SEA (Impact of Black Carbon In South-East Asia) for its second phase (2023-2026) brought together the community of Vietnamese, Thai and French scientists (researchers and students) working on Black Carbon in South-East Asia. After a general presentation of SOOT-SEA, the various partners (USTH, MIO, IGE, VNU, CARE, HCMUT, HCMUS, CHU, AIT, CMU, etc.) presented their past/current/future activities relating to the distribution, dynamics and impact of Black Carbon in the atmospheric and aquatic compartments.
