Paulo Duarte, Brazilian guest lecturer at the MIO

Paulo Duarte is a Fisheries Engineer and has a doctorate in Biometry and Applied Statistics from the Universidade Federal Rural do Pernambuco (UFRPE) and in Science from the University of Antwerp.

He is currently a professor in the Department of Statistics and Computer Science at the UFRPE. A member of the LAboratoire de modélisation statistique et CompUtationnel des phénomènes NAturels complexes (LACUNA-UFRPE), he is developing two main areas of research:

 Image analysis, focusing on the analysis and classification of shapes
 Statistical and computational inference and modelling of complex natural phenomena.

Among the phenomena studied, he is particularly interested in the morphological characteristics and growth of otoliths.

He is at the MIO for a year, funded by Brazil (CAPES/PRINT/UFRPE), to work on this theme. He is also keen to promote new research collaborations with his colleagues at the MIO.
