Doglioli, Gérald Grégori, Roxane Tzortzis, and Melilotus Thyssen on the response of phytoplankton during an intense storm in the north-western Mediterranean.
Extreme weather events can have a major impact on the physics and biogeochemistry of the oceans, but studying them is difficult. In May 2019, an intense storm occurred in the north-western Mediterranean Sea, during which multi-platform measurements were carried out in situ. The results show a strong impact on surface phytoplankton, highlighting the need for high-resolution measurements coupling physics and biology during these violent events, which could become more frequent in the context of global change.
