EMBIO is the french acronym for Marine Ecology and BIOdiversity.

Our group aims to understand the role of the biotic component in the functioning of marine ecosystems, in the context of global change. We develop approaches based on field observations, experiments in our laboratory and modelling.

Two main directions are followed:

  • an integrated approach of the biological production of marine ecosystems
  • an ecosystemic approach of perturbations, management and conservation.

We work on benthic and pelagic communities and we have strong collaborations with the other teams of the laboratory (physics, chemistry, biogeochemistry and microbial ecology) which is essential for our ecosystem-based approach.
