The University of Toulon will be coordinating the MED-GUARD (MEDiterranean GroUndwater Adaptation and Resilience to climate change Disturbance) project, which recently won the BNP Paribas «Climate and Biodiversity» call for projects.
The project is led by Virginie Sanial and Nicolas Gallois, researchers at the MIO laboratory. The official launch is scheduled for early 2026, for a three-year period.
The international consortium brings together six partners: CSIC (Spain), CNR (Italy), UAB (Spain), LBBM - Banyuls (France), RBI (Croatia) and LIMOME (Morocco).
With an overall budget of around €1.223 million, including a €730,000 grant, MED-GUARD will analyse the impact of climate change and human pressures on Mediterranean groundwater and the biodiversity it harbours. The University of Toulon will receive funding of more than €400,000.
