The "Sargasso Sea" is one of those stretches of ocean that are as famous as they are mysterious. But recently, Sargassum has been in the news for invading the shores of the Caribbean. Why are these small seaweeds that float on the surface proliferating well beyond their historical range? This is what a multidisciplinary team from the Mediterranean Institute of Oceanology (MIO) has set out to understand. A screening-debate in the presence of IRD director Hubert Bataille with Delphine Thibault, marine zooplankton specialist and scientific diver, Thierry Thibaut, phycologist and marine ecologist and Sandrine Ruitton, marine ecologist.
