3rd anniversary of the BioSWOT-Med campaign – Musical poem “The eddy melody”

" The Melody of the Whirlwind » is a musical poem inspired by the scientific article Ocean Circulation Modulating Nutrient Distribution and Fluxes at Regional and Fine Scales: A Case Study in the Northwestern Mediterranean Sea by Aude Joël et al., Geophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 10, 28 May 2026, https://doi.org/10.1029/2025GL120726.

This article examines the role of small-scale eddies in the distribution of nutrients at different scales in the northern frontal zone of the Balearic Islands. The study is based on the spatial distribution of eddies that were identified using SWOT satellite imagery during the rapid sampling phase.

Published by Tomasi Record To mark the third anniversary of the BioSWOT-Med campaign, this musical poem is the result of a collaboration between researchers from the Mediterranean Institute of Oceanography (MIO) during an evening spent on the BioSWOT-Med campaign.

It was born from an original idea by Andrea Doglioli (Principal Investigator of BioSWOT-Med). The music is inspired by the “SWOT analysis“, a science outreach project by Théo Garcia, with lyrics by Laurina Oms.

" The Eddy Melody » features Laurina Oms (vocals), David Nérini (bass) and Théo Garcia (acoustic guitar, drums, electric guitar, harmonica, bagpipes).

Our thanks to Théo Garcia, Laurina Oms, David Nerini, Andrea Doglioli and Louise Rousselet for transforming the complexity of Mediterranean currents into a sensitive work of art, thereby offering a fresh perspective on the dynamics of the oceans.
