Abstract

How can acquired and new knowledge be promoted and disseminated more effectively?

How can data sharing for the purposes of knowledge and action be organised more effectively?

How can we ensure that Bridges’ stakeholders actually take ownership of the data and services? These are the questions that Information on bridges aims to address, and it is within this framework that the data catalogue is being developed.

The aim of Bridges Information is to build an information system which brings together existing data and digital resources that are useful for the study of the socio-ecosystems of the South-West Indian Ocean (SWIO). This will then serve as a data and knowledge base for other targeted Bridges-linked projects and also for the wider scientific community.

Effective research data management should, amongst other things, accelerate scientific discoveries and innovations, encourage scientific and interdisciplinary collaboration, promote the reuse of data, ensure the integrity and reproducibility of research, and enable open access to data — thereby opening up new fields of analysis.

By identifying, planning and making the most of all available data on fisheries, marine biodiversity and socio-ecosystems in the SWIO, and more specifically around sites of interest, BRIDGES INFORMATION aims to ensure that everyone benefits from shared resources and contributes to making results available in accordance with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).

During this webinar, we will present the BRIDGES data catalogue as it stands today: the principles behind its creation, the data currently available, and its future developments.
