Ocean Institute - Summer School 2026

1 June 2026 - 8.00am - 5 June 2026 - 5.00 pm

Institut Océan is organising the 2026 edition of its interdisciplinary summer school, devoted this year to plastic pollution.

Programme

  • A week of seminars looking at plastic pollution from an interdisciplinary angle
  • A field trip to gain a better understanding of the impacts and challenges of pollution in the Mediterranean region
  • Friendly, rewarding discussions

Focus on the 2026 edition

This summer school offers an interdisciplinary approach to plastic pollution in the marine environment. It explores methods for measuring plastics - from nanoplastics to macroplastics - in different environmental contexts, from the Mediterranean to the southern hemisphere. Participants will also look at regulatory issues and existing levers for action, particularly through innovation and participatory science.

Alternating lectures, practical work and field trips, this summer school aims to strengthen the links between research and society. It will enable participants to gain a better understanding of the complexity of plastic pollution at sea and to identify practical ways of tackling this major environmental challenge.
