The Partnership, comprising 32 countries, is committed to implementing sustainable solutions to drive the green and digital transitions relating to the ocean, the seas and coastal areas. It aims to strengthen the European Union’s (EU) blue economy by aligning national, regional and European priorities in the fields of research and innovation.
The Partnership’s vision is:
- To design, lead and support a fair and comprehensive transition towards a robust, resilient and sustainable blue economy.
- Accelerate the transition to achieve a blue economy by 2030 that is climate-neutral, sustainable, productive and competitive
- To create, improve and maintain the health of the oceans, as well as the social, environmental and economic well-being of communities, by 2050.
Projects must cover one of the following four themes (in line with the themes funded by the national and regional research funding organisations participating in this call, as set out in the Annex, available on the Partnership’s website):
- Implementing a transition in the blue economy sectors towards sustainability and strategic autonomy
- Managing the use of the sea through digital and ecosystem-based approaches
- Promoting sustainable blue bioresources through innovative production and aquaculture methods
- Building the resilience of coastal communities through infrastructure and businesses
Each of these priority areas contributes directly to one or more of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development challenges, by supporting the generation of actionable knowledge, policy adoption, capacity building and inclusive innovation within the context of the blue economy.
