Abstract
The spawning areas and larval dispersal pathways of two eel species from New Zealand remain unknown, leaving their life cycle still partially unresolved. Although tagging is used to track the movements of some marine animals, these methods are difficult to apply to both adult eels and their larvae (leptocephali). This presentation will focus on the use of biochemical and molecular markers to reconstruct the migration routes of these two species between the tropical Pacific Ocean and the temperate rivers of New Zealand.
