OSU Pythéas organised the Friday 24 July 2026, at the request of the DRI at Aix-Marseille University, a masterclass in English aimed at the thirty successful candidates from the first intake of the Lafayette Fellowship.
Entitled The Ocean: A New Frontier – From Past Records to Future Challenges, the event took place in the OCEANOMED amphitheatre from 9.30 am to 12 noon, and was followed by lunch.
Following a presentation on OSU Pythéas and the MIO, a number of talks addressed the major current challenges facing ocean sciences: global change, climate and palaeoclimate, exploration of the ocean’s third dimension, and underwater archaeology.
Several colleagues from the MIO and CEREGE spoke during the morning, including Anne Petrenko, Kévin Robache, Guillaume Leduc and Thibaut Devièse.
La Lafayette Fellowship is a programme run by the French Embassy in the United States, organised by Villa Albertine in partnership with France Science. It enables thirty recent American graduates to undertake a one-year Master’s degree in France, whilst taking part in a Franco-American leadership programme comprising, amongst other things, masterclasses and laboratory visits.
