The Mediterranean is currently the focus of concern: it is warming faster than the global average, and faces issues such as plastic pollution, overfishing and coastal development. Added to this are the circulation of misinformation and a sense of ‘eco-fatigue’ that fuels a sense of doom and gloom. Yet the Mediterranean is also: a global hotspot for biodiversity, a hub for international scientific cooperation, a region of ecological and social innovation, and a cultural heritage shared by more than 20 countries.

The issue is therefore not just an environmental one, but also one of communication: how can we move from a narrative that causes anxiety to one that inspires action, is scientifically sound and socially engaging?
