Climate Fresco Workshop at MIO

Within the framework of the "Rentrée Climat", Karine Leblanc and Thierry Moutin (MIO-CYBELE) proposed (with the help of the association ELABORE) to the students of M1 Sciences de la mer and M2 OPB to follow a workshop Fresco of the Climate. This workshop took place on Tuesday, October 5th at the MIO with 80 students. This pedagogical tool based on the work of the IPCC is extremely powerful to establish knowledge on the functioning of the climate machine and to understand the links of cause and effect between the origins of greenhouse gas emissions and their impacts on the climate and human activities.

It is a workshop based on collective intelligence and discussion, which allows to fix the notions in a much more durable way than a lecture. It consists of 3 parts: the Fresco itself, based on a card game, a creative part + debriefing, a part on solutions. You learn a lot by doing it, even if you are a scientist in the field of the environment!

Karine Leblanc and Thierry Moutin have been trained thanks to the AMU training plan, and we propose this workshop, ideally in groups of 7-8 people, in the MIO premises. Other colleagues of the laboratory have also planned to be trained in animation to be able to spread this knowledge to a maximum of people.

Nearly 200,000 people have done a Fresque workshop in France since 2018, and the association (Fresqueduclimat.org) is aiming for 1,000,000 people aware by the end of 2022. This initiative is expanding at AMU in all disciplines, but the Fresques also intervene in companies, schools, with elected officials of cities and communities and in private settings. A massive participation of the association "Fresque du climat" is planned at the COP26 for the internationalization of this method already translated into more than 20 languages.

This workshop is open to all.
