World Ocean Day 2022 - The 30 years

Cries for the Ocean ! Day at the Théâtre de la Criée

As part of the Chateauvallon Liberté week at La Criée imagined by Macha Makïeeff and Charles Berling from January 22 to 29, 2022, the MIO participated in the Shout for the Oceans Day! A day dedicated to the understanding and protection of marine biodiversity, a major issue for the future of our planet!

On January 22, 2022, the MIO proposed several stands, Planktomania, Biolumunescence, Ocean Physics and Flow Cytometry.

Underwater duplex: Meet the scientific divers !

On 17 September 2017, a participatory experiment brought together a large audience, at the invitation of the Mediterranean Institute of Biodiversity and Marine and Continental Ecology (IMBE, Aix-Marseille University / CNRS / IRD / Avignon University) and the Mediterranean Institute of Oceanology (MIO, Aix-Marseille University / University of Toulon / CNRS / IRD), to share a live scientific dive to discover coastal habitats such as Posidonia meadows, coralligens and sandy bottoms.

The dive took place around the Endoume Marine Station in Malmousque, Marseille, and was part of the "September at Sea" program.

The objective was to show live the work of a scientific diver and to raise public awareness of the fragility and richness of our coastal areas.

Thanks to the duplex system - audio-video transceivers - spectators were able to exchange simultaneously with the diver-animators.

This experience was streamed simultaneously on the CNRS live Facebook page.

An exceptional day dedicated to the Blue Planet, guest of honour of our green invasion !

Workshops, conferences, films, the Théâtre de La Criée in Marseille organised, on Saturday 11 March 2017, a Planet Day to observe the wonders of its ecosystems, to examine its current situation but also to expose the dangers that threaten it if no one acts to preserve it.

This event was an opportunity to show the public, and in particular children, the activities of the MIO, which brings together some 250 staff (researchers, teacher-researchers, engineers & technicians) on the Luminy campus in Marseille.

Researchers who travel tirelessly around the world from the Arctic to Antarctica to better understand it... and better protect it.
