Hosting of the "Prado Reef Classes" days at MIO - June 9 and 10

Last Thursday and Friday, the MIO had the pleasure of hosting for the first time the "Prado Reef Classes" organized by the City of Marseille in the Grand Amphi of the Mediterranean Building, made available by the OSU Pythéas. Six different classes took turns in pairs for half a day with their supervisors (teachers and environmental educators from the Sea and Coastal Service of the City of Marseille) for a cross-presentation of their creations inspired by the Prado artificial reefs. Selected on a project basis, nearly 200 students from CM1, CM2 and a class of 4ème with an Environment option, presented their work for the year 2022. Films, a "Quizz" card game, a game of goose, posters, models, a dance show and a song brightened up our weekend. Several colleagues from the MIO, Mireille Harmelin, Sandrine Ruitton and Thomas Changeux, presented their work as scientists, their missions concerning artificial reefs and took part in the children's question and answer session.

Thanks to the many people involved in this promising project of budding oceanographers! Moreover, a current MIO intern came to testify in front of the students about his participation in an earlier version of the Prado Reef Classes when he was in elementary school, as part of his passion for the sea.
